DeLand Art Walk

Downtown DeLand is experiencing an art revival
with the new Fourth Friday DeLand Art Walk

This event is very young and growing!

In February 2011, Sherrill Schoening and her employee, Sharon Fithian at Great Escape Gallery talked about reviving the old gallery stroll that they both were involved with back in the early 2000's. Because there were so few galleries in DeLand in February, they decided to invite merchants to be involved as well. Their friend Janet Bollum, owner of The Muse Bookstore and a long time merchant in downtown liked the idea and encouraged them to move forward with it. An initial meeting with just 5 people took place, and then a steering committee was quickly formed. In March 2011, the first Deland Art Walk took place with 18 participating locations.

The mission of DeLand Art Walk is to provide artists who may not have had a chance to show their work as well as professional artists, an evening to share their gift with the public. In doing so, the Walk brings more people to Downtown DeLand art galleries, merchants and restaurants, and is building on the 4th Friday event which takes place in Artisan Alley.

The art galleries of DeLand, with the help of some Downtown merchants and 3 sponsors, Mainstreet DeLand, Mainstreet Bank, and Express Printing, are building DeLand Art Walk into an event that will attract people from the entire tri-county area. For July 2011 there will be 22 artist locations, live music, and live plein-air painting.

Special thanks to West Volusia tourism for their help in getting the word out about this event.
