2002 European Figure Skating Championship
The Beau-Rivage Hotel situated on the banks of Lake Geneva was our hotel for the 2002 European Figure Skating Championships. Dick Button, Terry Gannon, and Peggy Fleming also stayed at our hotel. After flying from Los Angeles to Orlando to Miami to Zurich and then by car to Lausanne, I was ready for a nice walk (after a nap), along Lake Geneva. The Beau-Rivage is another historical hotel and known as one of the leading hotels in Europe.
The arena was a stark contrast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was downright freezing as we sat in plastic seats with coats, gloves, and hats. We were ready for some brandy to help keep us warm.
We enjoyed our tour of the countryside and had a great time at the wine tasting. It was a lot of fun to sit drinking wine and tasting local bread and cheese. The weather was still foggy, but we finally saw the French Alps across Lake Geneva and what a spectacular sight it was.
Our farewell dinner was wonderful, tasting all the Swiss favorites, cheese, and wine. It was a memorable experience to return to one of my favorite places in the world.
