POSTCARD FROM 2003 SKATE CANADA INT'L
Bonjour from Quebec City, the 2nd ISU Grand Prix Event site of Master Card Skate Canada International. Quebec is world famous as the only walled city in North America. The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac which overlooks the St. Lawrence River, hosted skaters and officials from 18 countries. The Citadel, Cathedral, and Old Town was explored in free time to buy maple cookies, antiques, and souvenirs. The Ukranian dance team of Ruslan Goncharov and Elena Grushina visited a luncheon hosted by Silver Blade Tours, Inc. Tour participants were able to get autographs and photos with the Skate American dance champions.
Sasha Cohen of the US claimed her first Grand Prix Ladies Title. Victoria Volchova of Russia was 2nd while Fumie Suguri of Japanwas 3rd. Takeshi Honda from Japan won the Men's event with Canadian Emmanuel Sandhu skating to a Silver Medal. Alexander Abt from Russia was 3rd.
Elena Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov won their second Grand Prix event, therefore qualifying for the Grand Prix Final. Canadians Marie -France Dubriel and partner Patrice Lauzon danced to the Silver Medal, while Russians Svetiana Kuikova and Arseni Markov won the Bronze Medal. Americans Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov came in 11th place. Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin repeated a second Grand Prix victory with their gold medal performance. Qing Pang and Jian Tong of China won their Silver Medal. Anabelle Langlois and Patrice Archetto won their second Medal with a third place finish. Americans Tiffany Scott and Phil Dulebohn and Stephanie Kalesavich and Aaron Parchem came in 6th and 8th respectfully.
The audience at the Colisee Pepsi Arena was enthusiastic and filled to capacity each day with Canadians and Americans. Look forward to attending next year to 2003 Master Card Skate Canada International to be held in Mississauga, Canada Nov. 1-3, 2003.
